Home and Corporate Network Installation
ABMS can design and install your Local Area Network (LAN, or network.) Your network can be cabled or wireless. We install all necessary cabling. We recommend and install the best components and configuration which is needed for the your workgroup. We also configure printers, routers, communications, internet connections.
What is a Computer Network?
A Network is an interconnected group of computer systems with the ability to share selected resources, like hardware (printers, scanners, etc.,) documents (spread sheet files, word processing files, data base files, etc.,) Internet access, and the like. Most small businesses that have more than one computer system can increase efficiency by sharing these resources through a Network. Networks are usually limited to a specific geographic area, such as a residence, an office, or a building. A Wide Area Network, (WAN) allows an almost limitless number of computers to be connected together to share their resources. The Internet is a type of WAN. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) can allow single remote computers or LANs to share resources within an organization which are very far apart (hundreds or thousands of miles,) and can connect them together, as if they were in the same building. The common method of connecting a VPN together is through the Internet.
How is a Computer Network Installed?
Networks can be Wired or Wireless. If the Network is for your business, we strongly recommend avoiding wireless. A wired network is faster, more secure, and never drops connections. A Wired Network requires a cable from the main Network Switch, or Router (sometimes called a Hub, which works like a TV cable splitter,) to each Workstation. The Network Switch will also connect to the DSL Modem or Cable Modem, (a device which allows multiple, simultaneous Internet connections.) There will also be a connection to each Network Printer, if you have them. A Network Printer can operate independently, without the need to be directly connected to a Workstation, and can be accessed from any Workstation. A Shared Printer must be physically plugged into a Workstation, which must always be turned on while another Workstation needs to use that printer.
Surface wiring can be used to connect all devices together, (which will be more visible,) or internal wiring through walls, ceilings or floors, which usually connects to a wall plate, much like a phone outlet. Internal wiring is much neater, and less susceptible to damage. Wireless networking is the same in general design, except cables do not need to be installed. A Wireless Network Interface Card must be installed in each system, (except for most Laptop computers with pre-installed "WIFI".) Wireless is more commonly seen in residences, and can be quite convenient for use with Laptop computers, Dropped connections, slower speed and less security are drawbacks of Wireless Networks. There are new Wireless Routers available which are more advanced and provide more broadcast range, (and reduce lost connections.) There are Range Extenders, which can relay your Wireless signal beyond its normal range, and/or overcome signal loss through walls. There are larger, more powerful antennas available for transmitting a Wireless signal further.
The final step of installing a Network is the configuration each Workstation's Operating Systems in the Network. This final step can be quite complicated, depending upon the types of equipment and Operating Systems involved.
+ ABMS can recommend the best Network components to meet your Network's requirements.
+ ABMS can complete all aspects of your Network, from concept, to wiring (or not,) to configuring Computers, Printers, Routers, Communications, Internet Access, and Network Security.
